Powder Springs, GA
The city of Powder Springs, GA, is located in southwestern Cobb County along U.S. Route 278, roughly 11 miles southeast of Dallas. Powder Springs covers some seven square miles of land, home to an estimated population of more than 15,000 people under the motto, “Small enough to know you… Large enough to serve you.”
The town of Powder Springs was incorporated as Springville in 1838 by the first European settlers to come to the area in search of gold. The name was changed to Powder Springs in 1859, derived from seven springs within the town limits. Today, the city is noted for electing its first black mayor, Al Thurman, in 2015. He’s also the first African-American to be elected mayor in Cobb County. The Powder Springs Trail System offers outdoor recreation, along with Powder Springs Park.
